MINOT, N.D. (AP) - Minot’s City Council has approved taking 10 properties needed for a flood protection project through eminent domain if buyout negotiations fail.

Finance Director Cindy Hemphill says more properties also might end up being targeted.

The owners of the 10 properties have rejected initial offers. The city says the offers were based on two appraisals, but property owners dispute the valuations.

The Minot Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/1W7wcQG ) that Hemphill says the city is continuing to work with the property owners.

The June 2011 Souris River flood caused an estimated $700 million in damage in Minot.
