NEW CITY, N.Y. (AP) - A Rockland County grand jury has indicted a podiatrist and his girlfriend on charges of plotting to kill the podiatrist’s wife.

The Journal News reports (https://lohud.us/24ACHk5 ) that the grand jurors returned charges against Ira Bernstein and his girlfriend Kelly Gribeluk on Friday.

Bernstein and Gribeluck were arrested after authorities say an informant tipped them off to the plot against Bernstein’s wife.

The pair pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Ramapo Justice Court to the initial charges in the case.

Bernstein was released from jail Friday on a bond of $600,000. Gribeluk remains in jail.

In addition to the plot against Bernstein’s wife, police said Bernstein and Gribeluk wanted two insurance investigators beaten up because they were looking into potential fraud charges involving Bernstein’s podiatry business.

Both defendants are charged with second-degree conspiracy, second-degree criminal solicitation and two counts each of fourth-degree conspiracy and fourth-degree conspiracy.
