ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Orange County teachers in Orlando are balking at a directive that they must reimburse the school district if they used their “classroom supplies” debit card to buy food for their students.

The Orange County school district issued the directive last week after receiving an email from the state Department of Education that said they couldn’t use the debit cards for food.

The email didn’t instruct the district to ask for reimbursement and teachers in other school districts haven’t been asked to reimburse their school districts for food.

The Orlando Sentinel (https://bit.ly/1TvgoAU ) reports that Orange County teachers get $275 each to spend on school supplies for their students.

A school district spokesman says money spent on food for specific lessons don’t have to be reimbursed.
