LAS VEGAS (AP) - Authorities say a carjacking suspect tried to injure a Las Vegas police officer with his patrol vehicle.

Police say 27-year-old Jamal Gwynn was being held Sunday on multiple charges.

According to officers, a woman reported being robbed at gunpoint around 10:30 p.m. Saturday and the suspect had taken her car.

An officer spotted a vehicle matching that car’s description a short time later.

Police say the officer approached Gwynn, who had a handgun.

A brief foot chase ensued followed by a physical confrontation.

Police say the officer fired his weapon when Gwynn allegedly tried to take a shotgun from inside the police vehicle.

The officer fired again when Gwynn allegedly drove the police car at him.

The patrol vehicle then came to a stop.

Gwynn was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
