FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A 19-year-old man will spend at least 25 years in prison for killing his estranged 15-year-old girlfriend after she told him she was pregnant.

Media outlets report that Je’Michael Malloy took a plea deal Friday on a second-degree murder charge in the strangling of Danielle Locklear.

Prosecutors say Locklear told Malloy she was pregnant when she was not, then went to meet her former boyfriend even though he had threatened to kill her.

Authorities found Locklear’s body with cinder blocks tied around the ankles and waist in a river in March 2014 not far from her Autryville home.

Malloy was sentenced to between 25 and 31 years in prison. He was originally charged with first-degree murder, but couldn’t face the death penalty because he was 17 when he was arrested.
