FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - A new species of trout is making a splash in northern Arizona.

Arizona Game and Fish officials are planning to stock 18,000 tiger trout in various Mogollon Rim and White Mountain-area lakes.

Game and Fish spokesman Nick Walter says this is the first time tiger trout has been introduced to Arizona waters.

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources gave the tiger trout fingerlings for free last summer.

The Arizona Daily Sun reports (https://bit.ly/1Oioagb) that the fish are already in Becker and Carnero lakes.

The Game and Fish Department will release more into Willow Springs and Woods Canyon lakes about 30 miles east of Payson later this month.

Officials say the brown-brook trout hybrid is unable to reproduce.

They say they will get more if anglers end up liking them.
