LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Long Beach police have shot and killed a man they say had a realistic-looking replica gun.

The Long Beach Press-Telegram (https://bit.ly/24EoaAt ) says police got a call shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday that a man with an “Uzi-style” weapon was talking to three people who were inside a car.

The shooting occurred minutes after officers arrived. Police say officers tried to aid the man they wounded but he died at the scene.

Coroner’s officials on Sunday identified him as 21-year-old Lionel Gibson, a Long Beach resident.

Police say an airsoft gun was found next to Gibson, and a handgun was found on one of the men in the car.

There’s no immediate word on what prompted police to open fire.
