GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - A police officer was injured while making an arrest in a strong arm robbery that occurred at southern New Jersey motel.

Galloway Township police say the robbery was reported around 4 a.m. Saturday. The 29-year-old victim told responding officers that another man staying at the motel forcibly stolen his cellphone and refused to return it.

The officers soon found the suspect, 23-year-old James Hastings Jr., who still had the victim’s phone.

Authorities say the Lodi man refused to return the phone and struggled with police when they arrested him. One officer suffered an undisclosed minor injury and was treated at a hospital.

A telephone number for Hastings could not be located Sunday. It wasn’t known if he has retained an attorney.

This story has been corrected to show the robbery was reported around 4 a.m. Saturday, not 4 p.m.
