MILWAUKEE (AP) - A relative says a 9-year-old Milwaukee girl remains in critical condition after she was wounded last week by a bullet fired from outside her home.

Quinlan Bishop tells the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (https://bit.ly/1TxfNPi ) that the girl’s family and friends are “deep in prayer.” Bishop says the girl’s family is staying optimistic that she will recover.

The girl was shot Thursday night as she watched television in her home while police say two groups armed with rifles and pistols were engaged in a “shootout.” The girl was struck by a bullet that penetrated the home. She was taken to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, where Bishop says she was still in critical condition Saturday night.

Police Chief Ed Flynn says more than 40 shell casings were recovered from the scene.
