ST. MATTHEWS, S.C. (AP) - One person has died in what the South Carolina Highway Patrol says was a hit and run crash on Interstate 26 in Calhoun County.

Sgt. Bob Beres told local media outlets that investigators think a pickup truck driver struck an SUV about 5:40 p.m. Saturday. The SUV went off the right side of the road and hit a tree.

One person in the SUV was killed. Beres said the people in the SUV were wearing seat belts.

The driver was taken Palmetto Health Richland hospital in Columbia for treatment.

The names of those involved have not been released.

Beres says the white pickup that hit the SUV probably has damage to the right front fender.
