RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Authorities in Virginia say an officer shot at a suspect during a police chase in Chesterfield County.

The Chesterfield County Police Department says the incident occurred after an officer attempted to stop a vehicle that was driving erratically Sunday.

Officials say that after a brief chase, the car stopped and a confrontation ensued. The officer fired shots at the suspect, who wasn’t hit. The man fled but was captured after crashing his car in Richmond.

Police say 43-year-old Jonathon Deaton of Chesterfield County was charged with drunken driving, refusing a blood or breath test and eluding police. It was unclear Monday whether he had a lawyer.

The officer, whose name was not released, was placed on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation. The officer was not injured.
