NEW IBERIA, La. (AP) - Iberia Parish is considering halting all new mobile home parks in the parish while researching how best to regulate the developments.

The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/23BoT2X) the council on Wednesday is set to decide whether to allow its legal adviser three months to craft an ordinance specifically regulating mobile home parks.

During that window, there would be a moratorium on new mobile home park developments.

Parish legal adviser Andy Shealy says mobile home parks create “unique planning and zoning issues” and wanted to help the council streamline the process while setting strong rules for developers.

Shealy’s proposal comes a week after the council debated with developer Shawn Pourciau on whether to preliminarily approve his project west of the Lydia community.
