LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - Lake Charles officials say the first dog park on city property could open as early as mid-July.

Bark du Lac Park will be behind the city courthouse.

Downtown development director Lori Marinovich tells the American Press (https://bit.ly/1s5unYw ) that benches, trash cans and water fountains will arrive by the end of the week.

Mayor Randy Roach has said the park will provide a place for residents and dogs to safely socialize and will provide another reason for interstate travelers to stop in Lake Charles, possibly shopping and dining there as well.

Money for the park is coming both from the city and from donations.
