WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) - A nonjury trial is scheduled to begin later this month for a man charged with murder in eastern Iowa’s Black Hawk County.

Court records say Steve Fordyce Jr. has waived his right to a jury trial. He’s pleaded not guilty to a charge of first-degree murder, and his trial is set to begin May 31. Police say he is from Denver, Iowa.

Authorities say Fordyce’s relatives had been feuding with their neighbor Donald Harrington. Police say that while Fordyce was visiting his sister last August, he followed her to Harrington’s home. Fordyce told officers that before the shooting Harrington yelled and waved his arms at him and moved toward him until Fordyce took out a handgun and fired.
