NEW YORK (AP) - Authorities say a priest was waiting for a taxi in New York City when he was struck by a stray bullet during a drive-by shooting.

Police say the car had been heading west on Rockaway Boulevard early Sunday in Queens when a gunman sprayed bullets at a man leaning against a light pole near the priest.

A spokesman for the Archdiocese of New York tells the New York Daily News that Damien Ekete, a priest at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Morris Heights, was caught in the crossfire.

Ekete was treated at an area hospital for a gunshot wound to his arm and has been released.

The investigation is ongoing.

No arrests have been made.
