BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington has opened a community garden on its Bennington campus and spots remain for veterans and their families.

The initiative is to support veterans in the Bennington area who want to grow their own organic food, yet do not have space for a garden at their homes.

Veterans and their families may sign up for plots that are 15-feet by 25-feet free of charge.

The Veterans Home has prepared the soil, established the individual plots within the garden and will loan gardening tools.

Spots are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
