WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) - A Waterbury man charged with killing his live-in girlfriend over the weekend is scheduled to face a judge.

Camal Barnes faces a murder charge at a Monday appearance in Waterbury Superior Court.

Police say the 32-year-old Barnes shot 22-year-old Ebony Swaby at about 8:40 a.m. Saturday inside the apartment they shared while their 2-month-old daughter was in the home.

Swaby was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead about an hour later.

Investigators say the shooting began as some sort of argument.

Neighbors say they seemed like a normal couple and were seen hugging on Friday night.

It’s unclear if Barnes has an attorney.
