CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - State investigators are probing an officer-involved shooting that occurred after a traffic stop in Cedar Rapids.

The car was pulled over around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday near St. Luke’s Hospital. A city news release says the driver began an altercation with the officer, who drew his weapon and fired. The man got back into his vehicle and fled.

Police say he soon ran into an unmarked police sport utility vehicle and then an unoccupied car in a Coe College parking lot, where he was arrested. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of his shooting and crash wounds.

Police say the officer who fired his gun was not seriously injured. The officer driving the SUV was taken to a hospital.

The names of those involved have not been released.
