Americans who were focused on the political drag race between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton this week may have missed an actual drag race between Vice President Joseph R. Biden and former Secretary of State Colin Powell.

The season premiere of “Jay Leno’s Garage” kicked off on CNBC Wednesday night with a contest between vintage and new Corvettes. The segment featured Mr. Biden wearing shades in a 1967 Corvette Stingray and Mr. Powell in a 2015 model.

“For Christmas last year, unbeknownst to me, I’m going to my son’s house and there — sitting there in the garage — is a brand new 2015 with a Christmas bow on top of it and the whole family,” Mr. Powell told the vice president and Mr. Leno outside a Secret Service training facility in Laurel, Maryland. “It’s a present from the kids. I said, ‘that is so cool. I love you kids so much and I’m so glad that you love me.’ On Tuesday they sent me the freaking bill!”

Mr. Powell then dared Mr. Biden to “keep up” as the two prepared to test their respective vehicles.

“Title for title!” Mr. Biden shot back.

“You’re on!” said Mr. Powell, while shaking his left fist.

Mr. Leno joked as the two men peeled out down the road that the scene made him “proud to be an American.”

The vice president appeared to reach the end of the track before Mr. Powell as the clip ended. His Stingray — a wedding gift from his father — goes from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 4.7 seconds.

“Jay Leno’s Garage” airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET.
