MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Montpelier police are warning that a deadly batch of heroin is circulating in Vermont’s capital city.
Police said at mid-day Tuesday that in the previous 14 hours there was one suspected heroin overdose death and another incident in which a drug user was revived by emergency responders.
Police do not know if the powerful painkiller fentanyl, sometimes mistaken for heroin, was linked to either overdose. Suspected heroin bags recovered at the two different overdose locations were common off-white bags that did not have any markings or stamp.
Montpelier police say that neither the regional state police barracks nor the city of Barre received reports of overdoses in the last 24 hours.
Police say people in Washington County who need help with their addictions can call Central Vermont Substance Abuse Services.
