BILOXI, Miss. (AP) - An oyster reef in the Biloxi Bay closed because of excessive localized rainfall will reopen at legal sunrise Wednesday.

The reefs were closed Nov. 9 but water samples have since showed that the reefs could be reopened. Officials with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources announced the reopening Tuesday.

Oyster fishermen began tonging for oysters on the Biloxi Bay reefs on Nov. 1, something that had not happened since 1962.

At Tuesday’s Commission on Marine Resources meeting, commissioners voted to open reefs in the western portion of the Mississippi Sound from Thursday through Tuesday, Nov. 22.
