WEBSTER, Texas (AP) - A man described by a suburban Houston police department as a violent and wanted offender has been shot and killed outside a motel during a confrontation with officers.

Police in Webster, about 25 miles southeast of Houston, say the 38-year-old man was in the front seat of a vehicle outside the motel when officers approached and ordered him to show his hands. Police say the man instead pulled a gun, pointed it at the officers and was shot by two of them.

The man’s name has not immediately been released.

Authorities say police from several agencies were involved in the effort Tuesday evening to arrest him on felony warrants for possession of a controlled substance and evading police.

Webster police and Harris County prosecutors are investigating.
