FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a Flagstaff-area couple has been found dead in their home and it’s being investigated as a murder-suicide.

Coconino County Sheriff’s officials say they were asked to do a welfare check at a residence south of Twin Arrows around 11 a.m. Wednesday.

The caller said her co-worker hadn’t shown up for work and wasn’t answering her phone or a knock on the home’s door despite the couple’s two cars still parked in the driveway.

Deputies forced their way into the home and found 55-year-old Mary Smeal and 57-year-old Jeffery Jones both dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Authorities say the two were in a domestic relationship and evidence at the scene indicates Jones shot Smeal and then himself.

The sheriff’s office and county medical examiner’s office are investigating the deaths.
