RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (AP) - Suffolk County prosecutors say an employee of the Islip Terrace Fire District charged $50,000 worth of personal expenses on the district’s credit cards.

Newsday reports (https://nwsdy.li/2gjAQ05 ) 57-year-old Perry Rocco pleaded not guilty to a single charge of third-degree grand larceny on Monday and was released under his own recognizance.

Prosecutors say Rocco used the cards for his own expenses between December 2011 and April of this year and then forged fire district business vouchers to cover his trail.

The thefts were discovered by officials after changes were made to the fire district’s payment processing system late last year.

Rocco’s attorney couldn’t be reached for comment.
