PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Authorities say a Providence man who operated a large-scale heroin and cocaine distribution network throughout Rhode Island is headed to prison.

The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2f6eBp1 ) Attorney General Peter Kilmartin’s office says a Superior Court judge sentenced 51-year-old Juan “Cookie” Rivera to 15 years behind bars on Thursday.

Rivera pleaded no contest to more than 50 counts of violating the law on controlled substances, including the delivery of heroin and fentanyl.

Rivera and 26 co-defendants were arrested as part of an investigation dubbed “Operation Cookie Crumble” that involved state and federal authorities.

Kilmartin’s office says 11 defendants have pleaded to their role in the drug ring.
