ATLANTA (AP) - Authorities say an Atlanta firefighter is being treated for a knee injury after falling through a second story floor while battling a vacant house fire.

Fire Capt. Tom Towhey tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (https://on-ajc.com/2fLDw2K) the firefighter dropped about 8 feet early Friday morning.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, Towhey says heavy black smoke was pouring out of the front of the home and the rear of the house was engulfed in flames.

Although the house was vacant, Towhey says sometimes homeless people go into these houses to stay warm.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
