GRAYSON, Ky. (AP) - A coin flip has broken a tie and decided the election for the final spot on the Grayson City Council.

The Daily Independent reports (https://bit.ly/2fDnlqG) that Thursday’s coin flip resulted in tails and secured the seat for 10-year city council veteran Terry Stamper. He and his opponent, Sudy Walker, had each drawn 496 votes on Election Night. A re-canvass this week confirmed the tally.

Kentucky statute 118.425 allows for a coin flip to break a tie in an election. Walker and Stamper could have requested a recount, but decided against it after learning the additional expense for the county.
