DETROIT (AP) - A figure skating program for girls is coming to Detroit.

Figure Skating in Detroit was set to be announced Friday night during the city’s holiday tree lighting ceremony downtown in Campus Martius Park.

It is a part of a national expansion of the Figure Skating in Harlem youth development program. Organizers say Figure Skating in Harlem was established 20 years ago and combines education with access to the discipline of figure skating.

Figure Skating in Detroit is partnering with the Michigan Women’s Foundation. It plans to serve 300 Detroit girls between ages 6 and 15. The program will feature community workshops, summer camps, and skating instruction and shows.
