NEW YORK (AP) - A man extradited from the Philippines to New York City has been charged with beating his former boss to death four years ago with a ceramic lamp.

Miguel Abarentos was arraigned Friday in state Supreme Court in Manhattan for the 2012 murder of 87-year-old Thawerdas Sadwani.

The 29-year-old Abarentos was remanded after his court appearance. His lawyer told the Daily News (https://nydn.us/2grHrGB ) Abarentos was innocent.

Manhattan prosecutors say Abarentos ran errands for Sadwani on the weekends. He was discovered dead by his housekeeper in his apartment two days after he was killed.

Investigators claim Abarentos boarded a plane at JFK a day after he told a friend in a message that he had just killed someone.

He was arrested in June in the Philippines and extradited to the U.S.
