EDINBURG, Texas (AP) - An official says the death of a South Texas middle school student who fell from the rear emergency door of a moving school bus was a suicide.

Edinburg police Assistant Chief Oscar Trevino tells the Valley Morning Star in Harlingen (https://bit.ly/2gnU0Sb ) on Thursday, “We are not releasing any more information other than that out of respect for the family.”

The 13-year-old died Monday after falling from the bus that was taking Harlingen students on a field trip to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley campus in Edinburg.

Police on Tuesday escorted his body back home to Harlingen, which is about 40 miles east of Edinburg.
