BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Police say a 13-year-old boy has been cited to appear in court for aggravated animal cruelty after a family’s cat was found dead and hanging in a tree in a Vermont park more than two weeks ago.

Burlington police say the juvenile is also accused of killing a chicken near the Starr Farm community garden in recent weeks and is a suspect in an assault at school Wednesday.

Burlington Police Chief Brandon del Pozo says the department would like to thank the hundreds of people who took to social media and other venues to help identify who was responsible for the cat’s death. He says a city can be judged by how it cares for its most vulnerable, including its animals.
