PROVO, Utah (AP) - Police say a Provo man has been arrested after several dead cats were found with injuries indicating they’d been tortured, including one animal lit on fire.

The Daily Herald reported Thursday (https://bit.ly/2g3xxHJ) the kitten had to be euthanized after it was found on October 15.

Officers had no suspects until a few weeks later, when another injured cat was found in the same area.

Provo police say 26-year-old Spencer Pedersen was also seen that night and said he was walking a dog, though no dog was found.

Investigators believe he may be linked to the deaths of several cats found in the area in recent weeks.

Pedersen was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty, torturing a companion animal, and drug possession.

No attorney was immediately listed for him in court records.
