IRONWOOD, Mich. (AP) - Wintry weather is heading to Michigan and the northern part of the state is expected to see it first.

The National Weather Service says rain will turn to snow Friday afternoon or evening in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, brining 4 to 7 inches of snow over the weekend.

In southern Michigan, the highs in Detroit and elsewhere are expected to be around an unseasonably warm 70 degrees on Friday before colder weather arrives Saturday.

Light snow accumulations are likely in many locations in the Lower Peninsula and some areas could see more than an inch. Slippery roads are expected.

The change comes as the northern Plains states are expected to see blizzards, freezing temperatures and high winds.
