TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Motorists are seeing lower prices at the pumps in New Jersey.

AAA Mid-Atlantic says the average price of a gallon of regular gas in the state on Friday was $2.23, down 4 cents from last week.

It’s the second straight week that gas prices have fallen in New Jersey.

But the current price is higher than the $1.98 motorists were paying last year, thanks to the 23-cents-per-gallon increase in the state’s gas tax that took effect Nov. 1.

The national average gas price on Friday was $2.15, down 4 cents from last week. But that’s slightly higher than the national average from a year ago, when motorists were paying $2.13.
