NEWTON, Kan. (AP) - Kevin Diederich caught two touchdown passes, ran for two scores and returned an interception for another touchdown to lead Hanover to a 68-22 victory over Dighton on Saturday in the Kansas eight-man Division II state championship.

The Wildcats (12-0) won their fourth state title after falling short in the finals the previous two years, while the Hornets (12-1) came up short in their first championship game appearance.

Will Bruna threw for 234 yards and three touchdowns, and Carter Bruna added four touchdown runs, as Hanover built a 34-14 halftime lead and coasted the rest of the way.

The game was ended by the 45-point mercy rule with 7:35 left.

Dighton’s Tyler Ling accounted for three touchdowns, but he was also picked off five times.
