ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - An Anderson man was fatally shot after his testimony helped convicted two people in a federal drug trial.

Anderson County Deputy Coroner Don McCown says Walter Lee was shot multiple times about 1:30 p.m. Friday at his auto-detailing business. He was pronounced dead at an Anderson hospital.

The Anderson Independent Mail reports (https://bit.ly/2g5ntfx ) Lee’s testimony helped convict Eric Scott and Antonio Crawley earlier this month. Both face mandatory life sentences for conspiring to distribute cocaine.

Lee’s attorney Frank Eppes says Lee was “trying to live a good life now.”

Lee was among 21 people indicted in March 2015. A five-year investigation resulted in the seizure of more than $1.5 million and 220 pounds of cocaine.

Lee pleaded guilty in January to conspiracy and agreed to cooperate with federal authorities.
