PATERSON, N.J. (AP) - A mistrial has been declared in the trial of three men charged in the death of a 12-year-old girl who was struck by a stray bullet while riding a scooter.

The judge issued the ruling Friday after the jury told him for the second time in two days that it was hopelessly deadlocked.

Jhymiere Moore and Jeffrey Ellerbee face murder and weapons charges in the July 2014 shooting of Genesis Rincon in Paterson. The third defendant, Marshae Anthony, is accused of providing the guns used in the shooting.

Rincon was struck in the head as she rode a scooter to a family gathering in Paterson. Passaic County prosecutors have said she was not the intended victim of what they say was an ongoing feud between rival gangs.
