SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - The Roman Catholic Bishop of Springfield is getting ready to announce the recipients of funds raised during this year’s annual diocesan appeal.

Bishop Mitchell Rozanski has scheduled a news conference for Monday to announce nearly $300,000 in financial awards to community-based organizations.

The bishop is also scheduled to address his concerns about recent acts of intolerance in western Massachusetts.

The event will be held at the Bishop Maguire Pastoral Center.

Rozanski has released a letter in support of an interfaith prayer vigil planned at Mount Tom, where racist and anti-Semitic graffiti was recently found.

In the letter the bishop says he was “saddened by the continuing news of division within our great nation,” which he called “a stain against the whole of our civilized society.”
