FARMINGTON, Maine (AP) - A New Sharon woman barred from having pets stemming from prior animal cruelty convictions has been convicted of contempt of court after authorities say she was seen with animals.

Carol Murphy was convicted on Wednesday after the 71-year-old was found with dogs, a cat, a pot-bellied pig, chinchillas and a rabbit in 2014.

Her sentencing is scheduled for late November.

Murphy was convicted of animal cruelty in 2005 and was banned from having pets. She was convicted of the charge five years later, and was again barred from owning animals.

The Sun Journal reports Murphy represented herself with an attorney’s assistance.

She said Wednesday the first case was invalid and led to the other cases. She says she wasn’t obligated to abide by the order.
