We should never doubt American ingenuity and entrepreneurship in times of uncertainty.

“To help Americans survive the increasingly bizarre 2016 presidential election and the chaos it may bring, the U.S. Gold Bureau has partnered with Wise Food Storage Company, an official sponsor of Doomsday Preppers on the National Geographic Channel, to offer a selection of emergency survival products,” the two companies advise in a joint public notice.

“The new line of survival products, dubbed ‘Election Armageddon Packages’ includes a mix of emergency gear and food stocks provided by Wise Food, combined with a supply of copper, silver and/or gold coins provided by the U.S. Gold Bureau.”

Well, that’s handy, since a few Wall Street watchers predict there could be a run on gold and other precious metals following the election, no matter who wins the thing.

“We are inherently positive about the future outlook for our country, but this is a truly tumultuous time in American history. Being prepared for anything has never been more important,” says Joshua Hinsdale, spokesman for the U.S. Gold Bureau, an investment firm specializing in gold and silver coins and bars, diamonds, platinum, palladium and copper.

“For customers who truly want to prepare for what’s to come, regardless of the outcome of the election, we offer great-tasting food with a shelf life of up to 25 years, along with survival kits that include gear like flashlights, sleeping bags, water filtration kits, rope and more,” says Cory Rich, spokesman for the Wise Company. “But we recognize it’s impossible to stock everything you need for the long-term, so that’s when you have to be prepared to barter or buy additional supplies.”

“Americans are not choosing between two candidates in this election. They are choosing between two futures.”

A new demographic to consider, and one not found on any poll. Yet.

Buzzfeed senior culture writer Anne Helen Petersen reports that a hidden group of “Ivanka Voters” has emerged. They are an upscale version of “soccer moms” perhaps — a voting bloc made up of discreet, suburban females who admire Donald Trump’s eldest daughter, Ivanka Trump. And these ladies plan to vote for Mr. Trump.

“The Ivanka Voter is not the stereotypical Trump voter. She doesn’t have a Trump sign in her yard, either because it would get egged or she doesn’t want to fight with the neighbors. She knows all about Ivanka’s clothing line and brand, and thinks she would be great in the White House, because she’s classy and sophisticated, polished and well-spoken, all the things her father is not,” Ms. Petersen writes.

The daughter, meanwhile, is very helpful to the father. The mother of three is both a fashion entrepreneur and a real estate maven, and can graciously hold her own in public settings. She’s also in demand on the campaign trail, appearing Wednesday in Michigan and North Carolina. Then it’s on to New Hampshire on Thursday. Ms. Trump — a former model who stands 5-foot-11 and is married to real estate investor and publisher Jared Kushner — visits Nashua and Hollis, a village a few miles to the west.

“Arrive early,” the New Hampshire Republican Party advises the locals.


Sen. Ted Cruz has not stopped working on political issues, even as the election reaches fever pitch. On Tuesday, the Texas Republican authored an op-ed with Texas Lt. Gov Dan Patrick in the Houston Chronicle calling on Congress to end all taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood and to enact the “Conscience Protection Act.” The legislation would prohibit government entities from receiving federal funds if they penalize doctors “for refusing to perform an abortion in violation of their conscience.”

The industrious Mr. Cruz also turned out a snappy new video on Wednesday titled “Obamacare: Myth Vs. Fact.” It features President Obama assuring the nation in 2009: “If you don’t have insurance, you will finally be able to afford it.”

Mr. Cruz counters that average family premiums have increased by $4,700 per year since then.

Mr. Obama also is shown advising Americans that they can keep the health coverage or doctor they like.

“More than 2 million people will lose their plans this year, the video notes.


In our age of anxiety, few can blame moms and dads for trying to buy every last item on their child’s holiday wish list. But it’ll cost. T. Rowe Price interviewed 2,100 parents and their children, and here is what they found.

Six-out-of-10 admit they “never” stick to their holiday budget, and 53 percent get everything on their kids’ lists “no matter how much it costs.” A quarter of the parents have borrowed from their 401k plan, dipped into emergency funds or taken a payday loan to pay for it all.

“No one wants to be a Scrooge,” says Marty Allenbaugh, a financial planner for the investment company, which also found that parents spend an average of $422 to $500 per child.

But the respondents were candid: Two-thirds of the parents say they spend more than they should, and about six-out-of-10 say they pay off their holiday debt in about six months. There is some redeeming news in the survey: 87 percent of kids say their parents encourage them to be charitable and give away toys or clothes; 69 percent said their parents encourage them to donate money.


94 percent of likely U.S. voters are following the 2016 presidential election.

72 percent say they are “absolutely certain” they will vote, 16 percent already have voted, 4 percent say they will “probably” vote, 4 percent say the chances are “50/50.”

46 percent say they will vote for Donald Trump, 46 percent will vote for Hillary Clinton.

46 percent say Mr. Trump is trustworthy, 38 percent say the same of Mrs. Clinton.

12 percent say neither candidate is trustworthy, 2 percent say both are.
