BARDSTOWN, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky State Police are investigating the death of a Nelson County man whose daughter has been missing since last year.

Media reports say 54-year-old Tommy Ballard died of a gunshot wound on Saturday while hunting in a rural area outside Bardstown.

State police are still investigating the circumstances of the shooting. State police Trooper Jeff Gregory says the case is a death investigation and did not immediately release information about how the shooting occurred.

Ballard is the father of Crystal Rogers, who has been missing since last year.

Rogers’ parents, Tommy and Sherry Ballard, had been active in the search for their daughter and had vowed not to give up until she was located or it was determined what happened to her.
