SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Authorities say a man has been fatally shot by San Antonio police after coming out of an apartment following a seven-hour standoff and pointing a gun at officers.

Police Chief William McManus says the man was fatally shot early Sunday following the standoff that began after the man’s ex-girlfriend called police.

McManus says the ex-girlfriend arrived home Saturday night and discovered her ex-boyfriend there. McManus says the man put a gun to her head, then fired past her and pointed the gun at her head again.

McManus says after she escaped and called police, officers negotiated with the man for seven hours. McManus says the man pointed his gun at police while emerging.

McManus says three officers each fired once. He didn’t know how many times the man was shot.
