LAS VEGAS (AP) - Officials are predicting big crowds this week in Las Vegas, which AAA has dubbed the top Thanksgiving vacation destination in the nation.
The Nevada Department of Transportation said nearly 320,000 tourists are expected during a five-day holiday period beginning Wednesday.
Agency spokesman Tony Illia said Tuesday that almost 200,000 of those travelers will be making the trip by vehicle.
That’s nearly double the 104,000 vehicles on southern Nevada streets and highways on an average day.
The heaviest traffic is expected to be on the Strip and Interstate 15.
Nationally, AAA says more than 48 million people will travel 50 miles or more during the holiday, up 1.9 percent from last year.
AAA ranks the other most popular destinations this week as San Francisco, San Diego, Orlando, Florida, and New York.
