SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. (AP) - Sierra Vista and Cochise County officials say multiple properties in an unincorporated area within the city will be cleaned up and improved under a settlement agreement approved by a federal bankruptcy judge.

Officials say the properties’ owner will see partial relief from back taxes and other considerations in exchange for the city obtaining 11 properties.

Nearly all the properties covered by the agreement announced Wednesday are in an area known as Fry Townsite.

The announcement says the city expects to clear away 35 dilapidated mobile homes, several deteriorating structures and dozens of junk vehicles. It also says the county will help fund the cleanup.

Cochise County Administrator Jim Vlahovich says Fry Townsite residents will benefit because the cleanup will reduce certain crimes, vermin infestations and health hazards.
