HONOLULU (AP) - Health officials are investigating an apparent spill that put 6,000 gallons of a pinkish substance into a channel near a Hawaii beach park.

The Star-Advertiser reports (https://bit.ly/2ghHeRW) that it doesn’t look like the spill hit the ocean, and its origins are unclear.

Hawaii’s Department of Health announced Friday that it is testing water and sediment samples.

Analysts will determine whether heavy metals are present.

Pesticides and algal growth are among the eliminated possibilities.

The channel is near Kawaikui Beach Park.
