SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) - Jonah Hodges had 208 yards from scrimmage and three TD runs to help San Diego advance in the first round of the FCS playoffs with a 35-21 win over Cal Poly on Saturday night.

Hodges scored the go-ahead points on his second touchdown, a 7-yarder that made it 21-14 in the third quarter. He capped the scoring on a 5-yard run with 2:26 left in the game. San Diego (10-1) will visit top-seeded North Dakota State for a second-round matchup in the Fargo Dome next Saturday.

Hodges carried 35 times for 171 yards and caught seven passes for 37 yards.

Anthony Lawrence passed for 296 yards and two TDs for the Toreros. His 5-yard TD pass to Brian Riley made it 28-14 with 13:13 left.

Lawrence had his pass intercepted by Kelly Shepard, who returned it 62 yards to pull Cal Poly to 28-21 with 8:07 to play. But the Mustangs (7-5) turned it over with fumbles on their final two possessions.

San Diego’s only loss of the season came against Cal Poly, 38-16 on Sept. 10.

The Toreros became the first team from the Pioneer Football League and the first non-scholarship program to win an FCS playoff game.
