LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A Louisville TV news director says an anchorwoman who became ill while doing an evening newscast is doing better.

In a statement Saturday on the station’s website (https://bit.ly/2gs86hw ) WAVE-TV news director Bill Shory says Dawne Gee’s condition “has improved significantly” since the incident Friday evening. Shory writes that Gee became ill during the 7:30 p.m. Friday newscast and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

Her mother, Joanna Smith, told the station that Gee was “feeling much better,” and medical tests have been encouraging. She also said Gee was alert and speaking with family and doctors throughout the night.

The Louisville Courier-Journal reports (https://cjky.it/2gs7vME ) that Gee “collapsed” on live TV. The newspaper reports that Gee a survivor of kidney and breast cancer.
