WASHINGTON (AP) - The head of the U.S. Small Business Administration will be visiting businesses in Washington and in Alexandria, Virginia, to promote Small Business Saturday.

The visits by Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet are meant to call attention to independent shop owners and restaurateurs. The Small Business Administration has promoted Small Business Saturday for the past seven years, asking Americans to shop at locally owned businesses on the day after Black Friday.

Contreras-Sweet says in a statement that Saturday is a “day to express our economic patriotism.”

Among the restaurants Contreras-Sweet will visit is Shaw Bijou in Washington’s trendy Shaw neighborhood. The restaurant from chef Kwame Onwuachi has drawn attention for its pricey tasting menu, with meals starting at $185 per person.
