SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Utah officials are proposing that hunters be allowed to kill more bears, particularly in southeastern Utah where the population is reportedly growing rapidly.

The Salt Lake City Tribune (https://goo.gl/4Hq0Mo ) reports that there also is concern that bears are coming into conflict with livestock.

The public can comment on the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources’ recommendation for issuance of an additional 46 bear hunting permits in 2017 during regional advisory council meetings in December.

The meetings are scheduled Dec. 5 in Springville, Dec. 7 in Brigham City, Dec. 13 in Richfield, Dec. 14 in Green River and Dec. 15 in Vernal.

The Utah Wildlife Board will consider the recommendation Jan. 3 in Salt Lake City.
