MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont lawmakers are expected to gather more than a month ahead of their upcoming session to hear about the issues they’re likely to face in January.

A day-long session at the Statehouse on Wednesday is expected to focus on fiscal matters and health care.

The session begins with welcoming remarks from two outgoing Democratic leaders: House Speaker Shap Smith and Senate President Pro Tem John Campbell. Both opted not to seek re-election to their legislative seats this year.

They’ll hear about the state’s finances from economist Tom Kavet and Commissioner of Finance and Management Andy Pallito.

In the afternoon, they’ll get briefings both on health care and on efforts underway to clean up Lake Champlain.
